EKOFILTER filters, air-conditioning and ventilation equipment and associated filtration solutions
Equipment for air ventilation, cooling, humidification, dehumidification and heating for swimming pools, cinemas, shopping centres, hospitals (hygienic designs), the pharmaceutical and food industries, industrial premises, sports facilities, hotels and office buildings.

Filter classes according to ISO 16890
Unlike EN 779, which defines filter classes, ISO 16890 classifies filters into groups according to their efficiency in retaining particles from 0.3 to 10 μm. PM1 covers particles ≤1 μm, PM2.5 covers particles ≤2.5 μm, and PM10 covers particles ≤10 μm.
For filtration specialists, the key difference is clear: the former standard tests retention at a single particle size of 0.4 μm, while the newer standard assesses retention across a range of particle sizes.
Key differences between EN 779 and ISO 16890 — EFS / Engineering Filtration Systems
The main differences between EN 779 and ISO 16890 concern the methods used to test and classify air filters. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) introduced this change to help improve air quality in response to new research, regulations and increasing particulate matter (PM) pollution. The newer standard focuses on fine particles and sets out detailed testing procedures and classification methods.
Technical note. The former EN 779 classes and the new ISO 16890 classification are not presented as directly interchangeable.
| Filter group | Particle size (μm) | Classification criterion |
|---|---|---|
| ISO ePM1 | 0,3 ≤ x ≤ 1 | Minimum efficiency ≥ 50% |
| ISO ePM2,5 | 0,3 ≤ x ≤ 2,5 | Minimum efficiency ≥ 50% |
| ISO ePM10 | 0,3 ≤ x ≤ 10 | Average efficiency ≥ 50% |
| ISO Coarse | 0,3 ≤ x ≤ 10 | Average efficiency ≥ 50% |
